Service Description

Intermediate to Advanced Class: Specialized 3 week Raku Workshop exploring all Low Fire Alternative Firings Note: Unlike our other classes, due to the short session and specialty nature, the clay and firing fees are included in this workshop price. Embark on an enriching journey into the captivating world of low-fire alternative ceramics tailored for intermediate to advanced students. Traditional Raku is a process by which pottery is fired at a relatively low temperature and then moved while hot to a closed container with combustible materials (such as paper or sawdust) that ignite and cause a reaction creating colors and patterns in the pottery's surface. Explore both hand-building and throwing methods, honing your skills and discovering unique surface effects to elevate your ceramic pieces. Throughout the course, you'll have the opportunity to refine your techniques in both hand-building and throwing, experimenting with texture, form, and surface decoration. Witness the magical transformation of pottery through specialized firing methods. This class meets for three (3) hours once a week for three (3) weeks. Clay and Firing Information As a proud distributor of Mammoth Clay, we are currently not allowing clay purchased outside of our studio into classes. Clay and tools will be available for purchase through our website ahead of class or at onsite at the studio. You are welcome to bring your own tools and use studio sets. Outside commercial glazed can be used after instructor approval, otherwise all glazes are made in house. Please note that this is an adult class, 18 and up. We will accept teen students 14-17 but they must be taking the class WITH a parent or legal guardian. Want more studio time? Open Studio Hours will be available for current students at $3 an hour.
