Service Description

NOTE: This workshop is not for beginners, must already know ceramic basics. In this workshop, lead by local studio potter Bob Smith, a retired teacher with over 50 years of experience making incredible pottery. Bob will be teaching this workshop on the Traditional Clay Sagger fire technique. Leading you on how to pack pottery inside a sealed container (saggar) with organic materials, salts, and metallic oxides, then fire it to create unique, smoky, atmospheric surface patterns. Bob will be demonstrating throwing techniques for forms that lend themselves to the process of creating clay saggers and the firing process. Learn more about Bob Smith and his incredible work here https://www.bobsmithraku.com/ Traditional Clay Sagger Workshop Class Aug 23 & 30th from 2pm-5pm Firing on Sept 4th Beginning at 9am. Open studio access Aug 23rd-Sept 2nd during regular open studio hours. The workshop will be run over the course of Aug 23rd - Sept 4th with 3 active workshop days and unlimited open studio access during those dates for additional work time to create work for the Sagger Firing. Includes one 25lb. bag of Mammoth Raku clay and all materials needed to fire. To ensure work gets fired, all work must be turned in by Sept 2nd for the firing on the 4th. Additional bags of Raku clay may be purchased for the cost of the clay and an additional $25 per bag firing fee. Clay and Firing Information As a proud distributor of Mammoth Clay, we are currently not allowing clay purchased outside of our studio into classes. Clay and tools will be available for purchase through our website ahead of class or at onsite at the studio. You are welcome to bring your own tools and use studio sets. Outside commercial glazed can be used after instructor approval, otherwise all glazes are made in house. Please note that this is an adult class, 18 and up. We will accept teen students 14-17 but they must be taking the class WITH a parent or legal guardian.

Cancellation Policy

Specialty workshop classes are outside of our normal class offerings with special rules for each, please double check the class descriptions prior to booking. For these shorter offerings we cant offer makeup classes or late cancelations. The class is for registered students only, we cannot accommodate extra people or guests. While you are a student you have access to our open studio hours at $3 an hour. Studio time for none students is regularly $20 an hour. Unless the workshop specifically states open studio included, any time outside of class is charged to the closest half hour. CANCELATION POLICY: You may cancel for a full refund if you cancel 2 weeks before your class starts. Otherwise we cannot issue a refund.
